I just saw a post about the Body Shapes of the World’s Best Athletes, which is pretty incredible. The pictures of the bodies could be a little triggering for people with eating disorders because each athlete’s height and weight are listed. However, what I love about that set of pictures of all the different body shapes for a variety of athletes is that there is no universally perfect body. The athlete’s body shapes are optimized to the activities they excel in, and they look so different. The pictures remind me of the function of our bodies as agents that allow us to participate in the world around us. I too want my body to grow and settle into an optimal shape for my preferred activities.
